How to Protect Your Skin on the Slopes this Winter

If you plan on hitting the ski slopes with your friends and family this winter, it is crucial to take preventative measures in order to ensure that your skin stays moisturized and hydrated. You will find that the higher you climb on your favourite ski slopes, the cold winter and bitter winds will wreck havoc on your skin and complexion.

Before getting out of your car make a practice of applying a thin layer of Vaseline to coat the areas of your face which are likely to become dry from the cold weather. For example, in order to prevent your lips from becoming dry, flaky and cracked, it is well worth applying a petroleum-based lip balm such as Vaseline, or Aquaphor to give an extra layer of protection to your lips.

While Vaseline is most commonly used to protect your lips, you can also use it to protect your cheeks, nose, and forehead. Just remember to re-apply Vaseline, or Aquaphor every few hours as both products lose their effectiveness over time. Also, make sure to keep hydrated between your ski runs and cover up as much of your skin as possible. If you have dry skin, it is also worth moisturizing your skin several times per day, especially if you plan on spending a week or longer on the slopes. As you spend more time on the ski slopes with your skin exposed to the elements, the more you risk damaging your skin.

So, if you plan on spending your free time this winter hitting the slopes, it’s well worth taking preventive measures, to ensure that your skin remains hydrated, youthful and sun damage free.
